Chavez, a longtime DJ, started Sound Culture, which brings world music artists to Chicago, helps book local artists, and organizes acoustic series and music festivals across the city. Since 2009, Sound Culture has produced and presented hundreds of world music and jazz programs at over 25 venues around Chicago featuring artists representing over 40 countries.

One of Chavez’s many projects is the annual Celebrate Clark Street festival in in Rogers Park, organized in conjunction with the Rogers Park Business Alliance. Celebrate Clark Street has expanded beyond a community celebration to become a huge world music festival, “the only world music street party in the city,” says Chavez.
