The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is an eight-member, Chicago-based collective consisting of 8 blood brothers trained in musical instrumentation by their father, jazz trumpeter Kelan Phil Cohran (who played with Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, and Sun Ra). The brothers absorbed hip-hop, rock, reggae and other components into the cosmic jazz style of their father. In 1999, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was formed.

Using street performing as way to broaden their audience and hone their famed & distinctive sound, they enjoyed early grassroots success. To date, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble has performed their original tunes in every corner of the world from London to Sydney to Lagos. The group has worked with Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, the Gorillaz and Prince, among many other legendary artists. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble released their latest project, Sound Rhythm & Form, in 2016.
